On July 10th, the City of Alhambra held the 4th annual 710 Day. San Gabriel Valley residents gathered between Mission Blvd and Fremont Ave to show support for the 710 Freeway Extension at this festival. The successful event was filled with fun games, live entertainment, face-painting, go-cart rides, 710 giveaways, food vendors, a ferris wheel and information booths celebrating supporters' efforts to “Close the Gap!
Councilmember Steven Placido opened the ceremony with a warm welcome and an introduction to the 710 cause. City of Alhambra Mayor, Barbara Messina, opened for a series of speeches emphasizing the importance of closing the gap. " A tunnel can eliminate 57,000 vehicles from our surface streets per day! A tunnel is what we need and deserve!" San Gabriel Mayor Chin Ho Liao also expressed his concerns to the crowd stating, "we have had enough!"
Monterey Park Mayor Peter Chan, Monterey Park Councilmember Teresa Real Sebastian, and Los Angeles/Orange County Building and construction Trades Council Secretary, Ron Miller, along with many others were also in attendance.
