On June 10th, the City of Alhambra held the 3rd annual 710 Day. San Gabriel Valley residents gathered between Mission Blvd and Fremont Ave to show support for the 710 Freeway Extension at this festival. The event was filled with fun games, live entertainment, face-painting, go-cart rides, 710 give-aways, food vendors, and information booths celebrating supporters' efforts to “Close the Gap!
Councilmember Steven Placido opened the ceremony with a warm welcome and an introduction to the 710 cause. Vice Mayor Barbara Messina from the City of Ahambra, Chris Hannon from LA/OC Building Trades, Huntington Park, City Councilman Johnny Pineda, SCAG Executive Director, Hasan Ikhrata and many others were amongst the speakers voicing their reasons for supporting the completion of the 710 tunnel.
Councilmember Teresa Real Sebastian of Monterey Park expressed her support for the dual tunnel option. She addressed the traffic and mobility issue in the region in a powerful speech delivered in Spanish. "Traffic and congestion extends for miles affecting my city, affecting surrounding cities, and the entire region...let me be very clear....our communities are fed up!"
