The City of Alhambra hosted on Tuesday, June 3rd a Dedication Banner Ceremony, unveiling the stream of banners that will run along Valley Boulevard. City officials, Mayor Stephen Sham and Councilwoman Barbara Messina as well as SCAG Executive Director, Hasan Ikhrata, gave speeches to express their support in completing the 710 Freeway, a project that's been in the works for over 50 years. The banners statements' such as “Relieve Congestion” and “Put Traffic in its Place” are strategically placed along what Councilman Steve Placido described as “the most impacted street in the San Gabriel Valley,” Fremont Avenue.

Mayor Sham kicked off the series of speeches that elaborated on the importance of building the tunnel. “We are determined to protect our communities...” said Sham. “Today we introduce you to the 'Close the Gap Banners.'” Following the speeches the crowd gathered for the cutting of the red ribbon to celebrate the unveiling of the new 710 street banners. City officials and supporters chanted “Close the gap!” “Close the gap!” as a colorful display of confetti blasted through the air.
